Following the success of its first edition, the TwInSolar consortium is pleased to announce the second TwInSolar Summer School, scheduled to take place in La Réunion from 18th to 22nd November 2024. This event is designed for researchers at all levels, including postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, who are eager to deepen their knowledge and expertise in solar energy.

Participants in this year’s summer school will benefit from high-level lectures delivered by researchers from Fraunhofer ISE, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and the University of La Réunion. The programme will focus on critical topics such as monitoring PV systems performance and solar forecasting. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to visit hybrid power plants and remote PV systems, gaining practical insights into renewable energy technologies.

What is the TwInSolar project?

The TwInSolar project, funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe programme with a 1,48 million euros budget, continues to bridge research gaps in solar energy to accelerate the energy transition in La Réunion. By sharing best practices and fostering collaborations, TwInSolar aims to inspire other insular and outermost regions facing similar challenges.

Led by the University of La Réunion, TwInSolar strengthens the innovation and research capacities of the PIMENT laboratory with a focus on the massive integration of solar energy production in La Réunion and other insular territories. This project uses a twinning approach to foster good practices and knowledge exchanges between the University of La Réunion, DTU, and Fraunhofer ISE, with support from Nexa and the CPMR Islands Commission to ensure broad dissemination and replicability of the project’s results.

Who can attend?

The Summer School is open to all researchers, including postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, with a strong interest in solar energy. Participants will engage in valuable networking opportunities with experts from across Europe, fostering collaborations and knowledge exchange.

Financial support available for CPMR IC members

The CPMR Islands Commission is offering financial support to students and researchers from universities in its member regions to attend the summer school. This support includes reimbursement of travel costs up to €1500.

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Affiliation: Registered as staff or students at universities or research centres in CPMR Islands Commission member regions.
  • Interest and Experience: Demonstrate a strong interest in the topics addressed during the summer school, with current or previous involvement in European projects or cooperation initiatives being an advantage.
  • Language Proficiency: Possess a good proficiency in English, as all sessions will be conducted in this language.
  • Commitment: Attend the summer school for its full duration (five days).

Geographical Balance: In order to ensure a certain geographical balance, two candidates from the same organisation or member region cannot receive financial support.

Applicants must submit their applications by 6th September 2024 and will be notified of the results by 16th September 2024 at the latest.

Successful applicants will receive financial support as reimbursement for eligible travel expenses, up to a maximum of €1500, upon providing attendance sheets and necessary receipts. Eligible travel expenses include transportation, hotel, and food expenses, with extra expenses not eligible for reimbursement.
