At the occasion of 2024 International Women’s Day, the CPMR has put in the spotlight remarkable female politicians, members of the CPMR, who have gladly agreed to share their experience as women in the world of regional politics.
From personal to professional stories, in this series we discover another face of CPMR members. A common thread among all the stories is the fact that although the journey has not been easy to reach the leadership and power positions that they occupy now, it has all being worth it. As a result, young women wanting to enter the world of politics have the chance of looking up at role models.
‘You can make a difference’, ‘Always believe in your voice’, ‘Don’t settle for less than your male colleagues’, ‘regard your gender as a strength’ are some of the advice that CPMR women have extended to the younger generation.
Throughout this series, we highlight the role of regional authorities in promoting gender equality by spotlighting a variety of actions, policies, and initiatives implemented in CPMR regions. These efforts cover various aspects of gender equality, including parity laws, support for victims of gender violence, initiatives promoting women in science, entrepreneurship programs for women, and much more.
“As regions, we have the responsibility to strive for a balanced development of the European territory for all citizens, transcending gender disparities. The CPMR Gender Task Force has fostered collaboration and joint reflections on these fundamental issues. On this International Women’s Day, let us ensure that our shared future leaves no one behind”, commented Loïg Chesnais-Girard, CPMR President and President of the Brittany Region.
The CPMR Gender Task Force, in place since 2020 and chaired by the Basque Country, aims to ensure the mainstreaming of gender equality in all EU policy areas, while promoting and strengthening the role of regions in this field.
We wish to extend our warm thank you to all the CPMR women that have shared their experiences!
